Initial Setup

What This Page Is For

Use this page to configure Compliance Essentials after a fresh install or upgrade.

Setup Order

App Setup Page

1. Open App Setup and select Initialize App Data.
2. Open Framework Setup and enable the frameworks you plan to use.
3. Click Finish Setup, which will re-direct you to the Compliance Posture Page. If this is an upgrade, the button will be disabled and read “setup complete” instead. You can refresh the page and click Compliance Essentials in the top left of the navigation bar to navigate to the Complaince Posture Pag
4. Open System Boundaries and create or import at least one boundary.
5. Open the system boundary detail page and add assets.
6. Add control applicability for the boundary.
7. Open Saved Search Inventory and configure searches.
8. Enable searches only after schedule, lookback, linked controls, system boundary, and thresholds are configured.
9. Review Evidence Run Explorer after searches run.
10. Create or import assessments from Assessment Overview.
11. Review Compliance Posture and Control Health.

Required Configuration

Frameworks

Enable CMMC 2.0, NIST RMF Rev. 4, or NIST RMF Rev. 5 in Framework Setup.

System Boundaries

Each boundary should have:

• Name
• Owner
• Framework/profile scope
• Target baseline
• Control applicability
• Assets
• Permissions, where needed

Saved Searches

Each enabled search should have:

• Schedule
• Lookback window
• At least one threshold
• Linked controls
• Enabled system boundaries

What Setup Updates

App Setup initializes app-managed KV store collections and refreshes navigation (if it is an upgrade), and sets app configured to true (if it is a fress install). It also seeds default framework, control, search, and mapping data required by the 3.0.1 workflows.
