Description

The following analytic identifies when a new API token is created. Adversaries who have gained access to a privileged account may add a new token for persistence. This analytic uses the eventType system.api_token.create.

Macros

The SPL above uses the following Macros:

:information_source: okta_new_api_token_created_filter is a empty macro by default. It allows the user to filter out any results (false positives) without editing the SPL.

How To Implement

This analytic is specific to Okta and requires Okta logs to be ingested.

Known False Positives

False positives may be present. Tune Okta and tune the analytic to ensure proper fidelity. Modify risk score as needed.
